Matthew Hickling, LLB (Hons) qualified as a solicitor in 1991. Before that, he spent 14 years on the police, rising to Detective Inspector. Since 1994 he has lectured widely to the legal profession and investigators on professional skills, criminal law and practice and professional ethics. In recent years Matthew has been creating and delivering the highest quality training packages for lawyers through Matthew Hickling Training Limited, an authorised CPD course provider. Although a freelance legal training consultant, Matthew is also lead assessor for Central Law Training on the Accreditation of Duty Solicitors and Police Station Representatives.

This is a Police Station Update Course which will include the following areas:

  • Police station refresher – from the right to silence to disposals;
  • Investigations, diversions, bail and charge;
  • Post charge disclosure and plea negotiations – A-G's guidance;
  • Hearsay - why this evidence is still so relevant;
  • Bad character questioning and evidence – the latest cases;
  • Judgments – a round-up of the most significant.
  • Case studies – analysing advice and practice.

The course will also include an additional input on the new changes with regard to Diminished Responsibilty to Loss of Control.

Cost of the Course is £140 plus vat which will include lunch and refreshments.
